Who are you ?
I’m Melanie. I was born in France but live in LA. I’m an avid cook and beginner gardener, and Founder + CEO of Ghia, a non-alcoholic aperitivo that’s satisfyingly bitter and made with only good things.
Tell us about your playlist.
It’s a happy summer playlist. One I imagine you listen to when your arm ever so slightly overheats while resting on the window of your car with the window down.
What are you working on right now?
Launching the new Ghia Spritz - the ready to drink version of Ghia, just in time for summer.
What are you working on next?
Getting Ghia into restaurants now that the world has reopened. And holiday, which seems so far away but promises to be extra decadent.
What is the best story from a set or performance?
We actually found the design agency that designed Ghia because we went to a concert after a few too many weeks of hitting a wall with our name and agency search. We decided to take a break and dance to live Tame Impala and ended up having so much fun and loving the concert so much, we tracked down the agency in charge of the art direction which led us to Perron-Roettinger in LA.
What is the best sound?
The waves.
What is your favorite part of your creative process?
The research part. I’m a very nonlinear thinker and I love this time dedicated to letting my brain go in a million directions. It always starts with a few reference images and soon enough I’m deep enough in a hole ordering vintage books online.
What is your favorite color?
I love a pop of color on a background of mostly neutrals - 50 shades of off white.
What artist do you admire the most?
It’s hard to pick one but right now I’m really into Javier Senosiain. I visited Casa Organica while I was in Mexico City, which is a home he designed for him and his family and lived in for a long time. The attention to detail is absolutely stunning, it’s a masterpiece that was also functional for a house with kids.
If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A Ghia Soda with a twist of citrus.
What is the greatest feeling in the world?
The first sea swim of the summer.
What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
What is the last text message in your phone?
The last three text messages on my phone say “I’m in a meeting. I’ll call you back in 5” And I of course never call anyone back.
What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
A Pixar movie or a Luca Guadagnino movie.
