Who are you ?
Just a girl. All pretty and petite.
Tell us about your playlist.
It’s my soundtrack spinning this month to whatever scene of this movie that’s life.
What are you working on right now?
Single art for the musical group I creative direct for, Boys World. They’re bomb.
What are you working on next?
A music video for Wafia featuring Masego and Ta-ku. It’s going to be sick. Tune in.
What is the best story from a set or performance?
Oh man, I never know what to say when I’m asked this. If I should say something really dramatic (an extra passing out face down in the middle of filming and me thinking they’re really going for it this take) or something funny. My go to is this: Pineapple soda reminds me of this Jamaican soda from my childhood. So when I saw pineapple soda on the craft table during one shoot I naturally went for it. I was filming a rapper. I won’t say which one but he’s huge. He gets out of glam and picks up the liter of soda and asks “Who drank from this?” Everyone looks around a bit scared and nervous by his tone. And I finally just am like “Me. I did it. I drank your soda! Sorry man. Didn’t realize it was yours.” He just starts laughing and tells me it’s lean. I just remember looking at my team like ‘What’s going to happen now?’ ...Nothing happened. I felt fine.
What is the best sound?
I don’t believe I have a favorite sound. Someone recently told me their favorite sound is the venmo app alerting you’ve received funds. That’s not mine, but it stuck with me. I love the way Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sophie B Hawkins starts. Any song that can really make my chest feel like it’s sinking in I’ll keep on replay. I’ve also always been obsessed with the sound of How Soon Is Now? by The Smiths. I remember watching The Wedding Singer as a kid and noticing how well that song works with the transitions and actions when Linda returns. Maybe my favorite sound is just one that moves you in that moment and matches the scene.
What is your favorite part of your creative process?
Getting the band back together. I get so excited when I can call up someone I adore working with and they’re in. One of my assistant directors described it as going back to summer camp and seeing your other friend group.
What is your favorite color?
I don’t have one. Though, I notice when my work features certain colors over and over. I’ve been in a red state since summer of 2020.
What artist do you admire the most?
I really admire the way Stanley Kubrick’s films have a cohesion to them, but are all so different.
If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
I’m probably an Old Fashioned, but I’m not a big fan of whiskey. I’ll discuss the meaning behind this with my therapist.
What is the greatest feeling in the world?
Being awarded a job I can try something new on. It’s the excitement of growth. If I find out I got a gig I really am excited about, no matter where I am, I’ll immediately turn into Bender at the end of The Breakfast Club.
What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
I’ve been watching South Park in order. I’m on season 17 now. I just passed the episode where Ike goes through puberty in his little baby body and just the sight of that did it for me.
What is the last text message in your phone?
“Fred Armisen is at the dog park stoned out of his mind.”
What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
Firestarter by The Prodigy. It always makes me think of that one Charlie’s Angels fight scene where Justin Theroux walks through flames somehow unharmed. But in this repetitive moment I was on a run and this one got me to the finish line.
If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
The O.C. That show introduced me to Black Flag, Rob Zombie, The Chemical Brothers and so many other great artists. I wouldn’t change a thing. I would just love to be that person to someone.
