Q: Who are you?
My name is Sophie Koella. I was born in New Orleans, raised in West LA, and just recently moved to Paris. I’m half-American, half-French. I work as a model but my favorite things to do are photography and now DJing. My DJ name is Sleeep since it’s another one of my favorite things to do.

Q: Tell us about your playlist.
There’s a little bit of everything in there. I wanted it give a feel for who I am as a person, what I love and grew up listening to, as well as some of the stuff that inspires my DJ style.

Q: What are you working on right now?
A puzzle,  a book, an episode RuPaul’s Drag Race, and my DJ set for this Friday

Q: What are you working on next?
Probably another puzzle, another book, another season of Drag Race, and another DJ set #quarantinelife

Q: What is the best story from a set or performance?
The first Friday of “official” quarantine in France I DJ’d for an hour from our balcony (it was my girlfriend’s idea so props to her). We live on a little park in the 18th, so everyone’s apartment faces each other and the square. It was also the day after my grandfather passed away in New Orleans from Covid-19 so I was really needing something to lift my spirits after that. The positive reaction and energy from all our neighbors, 90% of whom we have never met, gave us goosebumps and tears our eyes. Everyone was dancing, little kids and grannies alike. It was the most beautiful and sincere audience I’d ever seen and it gave me hope. Since then, I’ve continued to do these DJ sets every Friday. It gives me, and hopefully everyone else, something to look forward to each week. And a necessary sense of unity I think. We are all experiencing this fucked up situation together- why not try to have some fun during the process?

Q: What is the best sound?
Birds in the morning and church bells in the late-afternoon

Q: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
Discovering/learning new things and having my friends be a part of it when possible

Q: What is your favorite color?
Yellow and sometimes green

Q: What artist do you admire the most?
This question is so hard it shouldn’t be allowed!!! It’s always evolving for me but if I had to name a few of the most consistent ones I’d say Nina Simone, Miles Davis, and Sally Mann. Then on a more personal note, I deeply admire my Dad, who is a musician, and my girlfriend Clara, who is a musician and DJ, as well.

Q: If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A Monaco LOL. Not really a cocktail… but it’s a “new” discovery for me since I moved to Paris. I love it cuz it gives me a sugar-russsshhhhhhh

Q: What is the greatest feeling in the world?
Orgasm and being in love, especially at the same time

Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
This 2-in-1 fart video/Coronavirus meme, I really wouldn’t know how to describe it tbh but it was funny as fuck

Q: What is the last text message in your phone?
“À table” to my girlfriend (who’s in another room) lol

Q: What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
Beggin’ – Frankie Valli & The Four Season

Q: If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
True Detective. Or RuPaul TBH.
