The lockdown has been so consuming so I figured I’d include songs for the wide range of emotions I’ve been experiencing in this time. Its music to wash the dishes to, dance to, read to. Really whatever you gotta do in the crib.
What are you working on right now?
I’ve been working on putting some finishing touches on my next project, along with assembling demos for a third. Arranging beats for people, making remixes, drawing, painting, making merch, learning how to relax and slow down.
What are you working on next?
After this is over I’ll start working on arrangements and visuals for live performance given thats still a thing this summer.
What is the best story from a set or performance?
Once when I was DJing for Joey Purp at UC Berkley, during the final song of the performance a bunch of kids ran up on the stage and started getting pretty wild. The performance was outside in their quad so the stage we were playing was a temporary portable stage that wasn’t designed to take all the weight, and midway through the final song the floor of the stage caved and the desk all my equipment was set up on fell and fully disconnected. Like everything, computer speakers, Serato everything. We didn’t get to finish the set thats just kind of where things ended. The kids were stoked.
What is the best sound?
I always really liked tuning forks. When I was a kid I used to have one in my house and I would wack it against things and listen to it hum out. I guess people use them for sonic healing now so it makes sense.
What is your favorite part of your creative process?
My favorite part of the creative process is the moment you break through, and a bad idea suddenly becomes a good idea, and you kind of surprise yourself with what you’ve accomplished. Its just never knowing what you’re going to get when you step in the room.
What is your favorite color?
Probably blue or some other color with blue in it. Its always changing but my favorites always incorporate blue whether its green, purple, teal, theres always blue involved.
What artist do you admire the most?
Maybe Rick Rubin or David Bowie. I like how they can work in the commercial realm and still push boundaries, reinvent themselves, and create a culture surrounding what they’re doing/have done.
If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
Dark and Stormy.
What is the greatest feeling in the world?
Being surrounded by friends and family eating and enjoying each others company
What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
My Girlfriend and I were dancing in our living room the other day and all the sudden our moves were syncing up like we were mimes almost and I just lost it. Ive been quarantined for too long I think.
What is the last text message in your phone?
Just a demo of a song to my friend Lane to play bass on
What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
“Heavy Metal Drummer” by Wilco.
If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
It’s hard to say cause most my favorite shows and movies are my favorites because of their usage of music so I wouldn’t really want to intervene, but if I had to pick probably the Great British Baking Show. I would turn it tf up.
