Q: What is the best story from a set or performance?
A: I was in the house band for Vice’s 20th bday celebration, Jonah Hill came on stage and sang an impromptu version of Drake’s classic, ‘Marvin’s Room.’ He subbed all the N bombs for “Actor”.. I’m sure there is prob some footage of this somewhere…
Q: What is the best sound?
A: ‘Sound of Blackness’ – I grew up on Optimistic, that’s my jam for life!
Q: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
A: The moment just before I get the breakthrough. It’s always darkest before dawn – but that glimmer of light. I live for that glimmer.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Black.
Q: What artist do you admire the most?
A: Sun Ra.. he’s the reason I make music.
Q: If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A: Kingston mule, its like a Moscow Mule but with Appleton Estate.
Q: What is the greatest feeling in the world?
A: That first stretch when you’ve just woken up in the morning.
Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
A: Dave Chappelle – Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories.
Q: What is the last text message in your phone?
A: 4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1.5 tsp salt, 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup cold water, vegetable oil…Fried dumpings!
Q: What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
A: I’ve been working on a remix of Tawiah’s “Don’t Hold Your Breath”, produced by Kindness – it’s not out yet – but damn it’s a viiiibe and I can’t wait for you to hear it .. The other track is August Greene ft Brandy: Optimistic (track 1 of the playlist).
Q: If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
A: Black Panther 2. I’d do a Kendrick x Andre 3000 x Rihanna x PSM track… ahhhh
