MAFALDA

Q: Who are you?
A: I’m Mafalda and I’m a singer-songwriter based in New York. My music is inspired by the different cultures and places in which I was raised, and my lyrics are an honest representation of my thoughts, experiences and perceptions.

Q: Tell us about your playlist.
A: Our daily lives and routines have been transformed in the last several weeks. This playlist is designed to move with the new ebb and flow of your days at home. These are a few of the songs that I’ve had on repeat lately – leave them on in the background while you work, learn, cook, read, paint, dance and do your thing.

Q: What are you working on right now?
A: I’ve been using this time indoors to practice, songwrite, and work on the visuals for my upcoming project with my Creative Director, Symone Ridgell. I’ve also been adapting to new ways of virtually collaborating with other musicians.

Q: What are you working on next?
A: I’m really looking forward to releasing my new EP in the months ahead. It’s the first time I’ll be putting out music in Spanish and I can’t wait to share it.

Q: What is the best story from a set or performance?
A: Right after my first EP “Daisy Chain” debuted in June 2019, I played an intimate show in New York City and for the first time, the whole room knew my lyrics and sang along. To me, that feeling of community is everything.

Q: What is the best sound?
A: Rain

Q: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
A: I love that moment in the studio, surrounded by collaborators, when a song first comes to life.

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Red

Q: What artist do you admire the most?
A: Lana del Rey

Q: If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A: Tequila on the rocks

Q: What is the greatest feeling in the world?
A: Swimming in the sea

Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
A: The Return – Judd Apatow’s stand-up special on Netflix!

Q: What is the last text message in your phone?
A:
“I went for a ‘walk around the block.’ Quickly realized there isn’t a block system here. Completely lost.”

Q: What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
A:
“Cayendo” (Side A – Acoustic) – Frank Ocean

Q: If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
