Q: Who are you?
A: My name is Camila Grey and I am a human who plays music for a living, who would rather be in space, than on the earth…Even though, technically we are in space. You get my drift.
Q: Tell us about your playlist.
A: For me, it’s a mood somewhere in between days and days of rain and grey skies, and seeing the sun for the first time in a while. It’s whimsy and too many espressos, and also taking too many naps.
Q: What are you working on right now?
A: I’m currently finishing three projects. One is a solo self titled LP, the other is a project I’m working on with Nikolai Fraiture (The Strokes) for a band I’m in called “Summer Moon”, and lastly I’m finishing songs with a pop artist called “Moxie”. She’s a true badass.
Q: What are you working on next?
A: A neo-classical album, and a tie dye shibori style hoody line, because why not? I got bored and became cliché and learned how to tie dye in laurel canyon during this quarantine. Shhhh.
Q: What is the best story from a set or performance?
A: I recently played keys for a show with Billy Idol, and that’s all I have to say. I was pinching myself while playing the “White Wedding” choral key parts because normally I’m just Dj’ing that cut. It was surreal. =)
Q: What is the best sound?
A: For me, it’s the LA philharmonic, with Dudamel conducting, whilst playing a crescendo at Walt Disney Hall, after smoking copious amounts of cannabis. It is like sitting inside a very expensive perfectly constructed piece of wooden art. It is absolutely wonderful. You should try it.
Q: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
A: Getting out of my own way, and being in a flow state.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: The color of sky when on a plane and you look up and it fades into the deepest blue.
Q: What artist do you admire the most?
A: Bjørk. Total artist. Uncompromising. Punches paparazzi to protect her cubs, and wears unpopular outfits… and not even to be trivial. She’s the real deal.
Q: If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A: Japanese Whiskey, one large round cube of ice. Wedge of orange on rim.
Q: What is the greatest feeling in the world?
A: Free falling out of a plane, and sitting atop the peak of a mountain. Love is ok too.
Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
A: Our current president- just generally.
Q: What is the last text message in your phone?
A: “what the hell is happening, I feel funny”.
Q: What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
A: “Corpus Christi Carol” by Jeff Buckley, because it’s so haunting.
Q: If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
A: Stranger Things, although they already do a lovely job.
