JOSEF SALVAT

JOSEF SALVAT

Q:  Who are you?
A: Josef Salvat, born in Sydney, sun in scorpio.

Q: Tell us about your playlist.
A: It’s pretty erratic, it’s what my days look like at the moment – starts with cute bops, veers away, middles in euro nostalgia, veers away, gets a bit dirty.

Q: What are you working on right now?
A: Right, right now, before answering these Q’s, I was working out how to get better sound while recording on my phone, because I’m sick of how shit everything is sounding in quarantine live streams. More broadly, my second album is coming out May 15, so prep for that.

Q: What are you working on next?
A: After this I will be reading a poem into the camera and sending it to someone I have only met once. Pretty Nervous.

Q: What is the best story from a set or performance?
A: This is not the best story, but it is memorable. I was playing a gig in Strasbourg, fairly big, and completely forgot the lyrics to a cover of “Weekend A Rome” by Etienne Daho. I had sung this song every night on tour, but for some reason  I couldn’t remember a single line. The audience knew the song so well, there was no way to hide it. I ended up stopping the gig and googling the lyrics on an audience member’s phone, which I sang from for the rest of the song.

Q: What is the best sound?
A: There are a lot of great sounds but the first thing that came to mind here was rain on the roof when you are inside and happy about it.

Q: What is your favorite part of your creative process?
A: When the idea/inspiration lands out of the blue and I have to race to keep up with it so I can catch it completely and then the feeling after i’ve caught it

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Yesterday walking my dog in the woods there were some amazing greens. When multiple shades of green are hanging out together it’s honestly one of my favourite things.

Q: What artist do you admire the most?
A: Depends on the angle. I rate a lot of artists for a lot of different things

Q: If you were a cocktail, what would you be?
A: Something bitter sweet and dry like a Negroni

Q: What is the greatest feeling in the world?
A: That unstoppable, invincible feeling you can get when you fall in love…

Q: What was the last thing that made you laugh really hard?
A: I find every joke my new lover tells me genuinely, wildly, hilarious. So one of those.

Q: What is the last text message in your phone?
A: “Why not pick up my calls you h8 me?” ….

Q: What was the last song you listened to on repeat?
A: Dolerme” – Rosalia

Q: If you could supervise music for a TV show or a movie, what would it be?
A: Either a music supervisor for HBO (ideally multiple shows) or any Baz Luhrmann film.
